On April 9, 2021, experts and professors from Huazhong Agricultural University led graduate students to practice in Guifeng mountain scenic spot, and carried out scientific research and investigation on 100000 mu of wild rhododendrons in the park. The professor and his party also conducted in-depth investigation and Research on some plants in Guifeng mountain area, so as to make data collection and preparation for future research on Rhododendron species resources collection, cultivation and conservation.

The scientific research team walked up the steps of Changshou stone path and saw a huge pictograph stone. The guide and server of the scenic spot said: this granite pictograph stone is called Wanger stone because it looks like a mother and son hugging together. The rocks are middle Zhuluo fine-grained and coarse-grained biotite monzogranite and granodiorite 170 million years ago. The rock mass is a common developed joint fissure, which forms pictographic landscape stone under the action of long-term spherical weathering, differential weathering, rain erosion and gravity collapse. The visiting students expressed surprise and shock.

Rhododendron simsii Planch, also known as YINGSHANHONG and shanshiliu, is an evergreen or common green shrub. It is said that in ancient times, there were cuckoos, whining and hemoptysis day and night, which dyed the flowers all over the mountain red, hence the name. Rhododendron usually blooms in spring, with 2-6 flowers per cluster, funnel-shaped corolla, red, light red, apricot red, snow-green, white, etc., with luxuriant and gorgeous flowers. It is a typical indicator plant of acid soil in South Central and southwest China. In the Rhododendron Expo Park on the Bank of Guifeng lake, the scientific research team inspected the growth environment and habits of Rhododendron, and praised the cultivation and conservation of Rhododendron in the park.
