"Macheng azaleas are like torches for thousands of years. If it wants to be red, it will be red, and if it wants to be fire, it will be fire!" In 2022, this folk song appeared on the stage of CCTV, singing the aspirations of Macheng people.
Guifeng Mountain is located in the southern foot of Dabie Mountain, located in Macheng City, Hubei Province, 113 kilometers away from Wuhan City, known as the "back garden" of Wuhan, growing 100,000 mu of original ecological ancient rhododendron community. Every spring, rhododendrons all over the mountains are in full bloom and beautiful, known as "the most beautiful red ribbon in Dabie Mountain".
In 2007, after field investigation by experts such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, this ancient rhododendron community unveiled its mystery, and was identified as "the largest ancient rhododendron (Rhododendron) community in China" by the Shanghai World Ginis Headquarters.
The following year, Macheng held the first cuckoo Cultural Tourism Festival. For a time, "April day on earth, Macheng see cuckoo" swept the country. Macheng Azalea has appeared twice in New York's Times Square, and has been on the CCTV screen for 14 consecutive years. In 2009, Guifeng Mountain was rated as a national 4A scenic spot.
A flower, a city on fire. Superimposed tourism fever and self-driving tour boom, Macheng cuckoo hot out of the circle. With the "explosion" of traffic, it is a huge challenge to the comprehensive operation and management ability of scenic spots.
From the first flower to the full flower, and then to the tail flower, the rhododendron flowering period is only a short two months. Every flower season, hundreds of thousands of tourists flocked to Guifeng Mountain, of which only "May Day" holiday, tourists accounted for half.
More than ten years ago, a tourist who had visited Guifeng Mountain to enjoy the flowers still remembers. He said that the provincial road from Macheng city to the scenic spot has become a parking lot on both sides. It's a few kilometers from the scenic spot, so you have to get off and walk. The mountain is also overcrowded, can be called "walk 5 hours, enjoy half an hour".
In order to solve the traffic problem, Macheng has been working hard, including temporarily opening up a super large parking lot that can park 3,000 vehicles at the same time in the urban area, and sending dozens of buses for transfer, but it is still unable to effectively solve the "happiness and troubles" caused by the increase in the number of tourists every year.
What to do? In the long run, not only can the visitor experience not be improved, but this precious sea of flowers is not properly protected, and the cuckoo is likely to become a flashing meteor.
In 2013, Macheng made a decisive decision to start the 5A creation of Guifeng Mountain, forcing various reforms in the scenic area. At the same time, we began to look for partners to jointly solve the problems restricting the development of scenic spots. At the end of 2015, Macheng Municipal Government signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Hubei Communications Investment Group.
In 2016, Guifeng Mountain Scenic spot successfully passed the national 5A landscape quality assessment and got the 5A "admission ticket". In 2017, Macheng officially transferred the development right of Guifeng Mountain Scenic spot to Hubei Investment Dabie Mountain Company.
Break seasonal limits

"Hello, welcome to Kumbong Mountain!" On January 10, Hu-Rong high-speed Guifeng Mountain branch toll station, the waiter's smile greeting became the first business card flashed by the scenic spot.
"This is the first highway in our province that goes directly to the gate of the scenic spot." After taking over the scenic spot, the group invested 520 million yuan to start the construction of Guifeng Mountain Branch line.
In September 2021, the 5.6-kilometer Guifeng Mountain Spur Line was opened, closely connecting the flower sea in the mountains with the high-speed channel, fundamentally solving the traffic problems plaguing the scenic spot. Since then, not only tourists from all over the country can have direct access to high speed, but also residents in surrounding towns and rural areas can enjoy the convenience of travel.
Where the tourists come from, the scenic spot welcomes them. With the opening of the expressway extension, the structure of the Kamebong Mountain View area was greatly adjusted, the main entrance was changed from the south gate to the north gate, and a new visitor center and supporting facilities were built, as well as parking lots for thousands of cars. Tourists transfer to the scenic traffic vehicle, along the road to enjoy the scenery, you can direct to the core scenic spot.
The azalea Sea is a must-visit place for tourists, and it is also the most crowded place in the annual flower season. After years of improvement, the current flower Sea tour route has been re-planned and expanded to Risk knife peak. The tour trail is spacious and smooth, the logo is clear, the science popularization information of rhododendron and Huanggang Dabie Mountain Global Geopark is everywhere, the mobile phone signal is fully covered, and the number of tourists can also show the circle of friends.
In order to solve the problem of "difficulty in going up the mountain", which was the most complained about, the scenic spot invested 56 million yuan to upgrade the scenic spot cableway, and the transport capacity increased from 6,000 people to 24,000 people per day.
While improving the supporting facilities, the scenic spot continues to enrich its business.
In the past, people often say that there is only one season in Guifeng Mountain, that is the flower season. As soon as the rhododendrons disappear, the scenic spot is deserted. If you want to create a national 5A scenic spot, only one season tour is obviously not enough.
Hu Zaiqi, manager of Guifeng Mountain Tourism Management company, introduced that the scenic spot invested nearly 1 billion yuan, and added Guifeng Gorge, international sports Turtle Valley, 1288 sightseeing tower, glass plank road, Turtle Lada and other tourism projects, successfully "circle powder" young people who love the outdoors. Relying on the Dabie Mountain Global Geopark, we will enrich and enhance the four seasons tourism products of "flower appreciation in spring, summer summer, mountain climbing in autumn and skiing in winter". In recent years, with the increasing number of hot weather, Guifeng Mountain summer tour is also popular.
In 2024, Kumbong Mountain Ski Resort will be put into operation. "I didn't expect the Guifeng Mountain in winter to be so fun, and I will bring more babies in the future!" Yuan Bo, a tourist from Huangzhou, said with a smile.

All-round file upgrading
5A Create a forced management ability to improve

In 2022, Luo Xianyong renovated and upgraded the homestay, and the annual net income of his family reached 200,000 yuan. "Not only the hardware has to be upgraded, but the services have to keep up. Every day I clean the shelves, I hold myself to a high standard." Luo Xianyong said proudly.
"' 5A 'is a complete set of service quality and environmental quality evaluation system, this system is not only the assessment of the scenic spot, but the all-round service tourists feel after entering Macheng, is a comprehensive evaluation of the local management ability, the government, the scenic spot, and the masses need to be twisted into a string." With the creation of 5A scenic spots as a breakthrough to promote the improvement of local management capabilities, in 2021, the ninth Party Congress of Macheng City made a total deployment to promote the creation of 5A scenic spots in Guifeng Mountain; The following year, the creation was written into the government work report. The establishment work has successively risen to the municipal and provincial level, and has been included in the "14th Five-Year Plan" for tourism development of Huanggang and the province.
In order to form a joint force, Macheng City and Dabie Mountain Company jointly set up a leading group for the creation of work, the Party secretary and chairman of the general supervision, the mayor and the general manager as the leader, the "four people" leader as the deputy leader, the Municipal Committee Standing Committee, the minister of Publicity Department, in charge of the deputy mayor line command, the city's more than 60 departments to participate. Environment enhancement. Renovate and beautify the facade of civil houses along the scenic area, increase environmental sanitation remediation efforts, and greatly improve the aesthetics and ornamental degree along the road from the urban area to the scenic area.
Improve the quality of business form. Rich mountain escalators, international sports turtle Valley, parent-child parks, outdoor skiing and other four season tourism theme products, complete the Cuckoo Park, Guifeng Inn and other upgrades.
Cultural enhancement. Introduce a number of art, music college practice training base settled down, built a geological science exhibition hall, with the theme of "Cuckoo sister" and "Stone turtle boy" cartoon IP image, actively developed and produced more than 40 series of cultural display products, cultural and creative products and characteristic experience products, designed "turtle mountain guest", "turtle Mountain tour", "turtle mountain House", "turtle mountain boy" and other brand trademarks.
"Our service is the first impression of visitors from all over the country after arriving in Macheng."
